SUCI(C) strongly opposes highly undemocratic anti-education proposal of the BJP government to include teachings of Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata as well as spiritual values in academic syllabus

Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI(C), issued the following statement on 13 september, 2015:—
We strongly oppose the highly objectionable proposal of the BJP-led central government to include in the school and college syllabus, teachings of Mahabharata, Ramayana, Gita and all other spiritual values—a well-calibrated move which is in consonance with the sinister design of communalizing and saffronizing education taking in its sweep whatever little of secularism is still remaining. Hence, this very move to incorporate myth and religion in the curricula clearly militates against the concept of secular, scientific, democratic, universal education that the doyens of Indian renaissance strongly espoused for and all right-thinking democratic-minded educationists, academicians and intellectuals firmly stand by today.
It is clear that in the name of “ridding the country of ‘cultural pollution’ and inculcate ‘values’ among young minds”, the attempt is to blunt rational thinking process, trigger cultivation of revivalist and old obsolete thoughts and orient the mindset of the students in mystic alley of blind faith.
We call upon the well-meaning citizens, teachers, students, professors, principals, vice-chancellors, guardians, eminent persons connected with the academia as well as all sections of the toiling people to resist this onslaught on education and develop a powerful movement so as to force the government to rescind this draconian proposal.
