Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI(C), issued the following statement on 27 march 2022:
‘‘We strongly denounce the draconian anti-people policies like steep hike in prices of essential medicines and demand immediate roll- back of this decision.
The BJP-led central government has been raising petrol and diesel prices almost every day. The BJP hiked petrol and diesel prices soon after winning four Assembly seats. Subsidy on Kerosene is virtually abolished. Now the prices of 800 odd essential medicines are set to rise by 10.7% from early April. As usual the plea is of increase in the prices of raw materials and need to protect the profit margin of the pharmaceutical companies.
Needless to say that with the fragile healthcare system in place and 50% reduction in the number of medicines available in the government hospitals free of cost, this steep hike in medicines in open market would make people bleed white.’’
