Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI (Communist), issued the following statement on 1 September 2022:
‘‘We are deeply shocked to find that the Supreme Court of India, in its judgment delivered on the 30th August 2022, instead of disposing the long pending petitions of the victims of 2002 communal killings of Gujarat including that of the Human Rights Commission, decided to close them in an arbitrary manner terming them to be ‘infructuous’. In our opinion, it is an act of grave miscarriage of justice which is tantamount to rewarding the perpetrators of the 2002 Gujarat pogrom.
We urge upon the Supreme Court to at once rescind this highly unjust order and take up those petitions thereby ensure justice to the petitioners as quickly as possible. We also urge upon the right-thinking people of the country to raise their strong voice of protest against this injustice.’’
