Strongly condemning the new amendment made in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary of SUCI(Communist), issued the following statement on 12 April 2022:
‘‘Any criminal act against children is reckoned as an unpardonable sin by any sensible human mind.In every civilized country, there is provision for stringent punishment for those guilty of such horrendous crimes. But, all right-thinking people of our country are observing with grave concern that alongside harrowing economic crisis including alarming price rise, there is rapid proliferation of liquor and drug addiction. As result, atrocities against women including girl children like rape, gang-rape and murder of the rape victims are growing at an alarming proportion.It is coming to light that children staying in the government homes are often used for illicit sexual activities and filming of pornography, subjected to inhuman physical and mental tortures and even trafficked outside.
When the situation is so traumatic and disgraceful, the BJP-led Central government has brought a new amendment to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and got it passed in both houses of the parliament. As per the amendment, the aforesaid brutal crimes committed on the children would no more be regarded as cognizable offences for the purpose of registering FIR and investigation by the police. So those guilty of such crimes would no more have any fear of prosecution, let alone any punitive action. This very move on the part of the BJP government, subservient to the class interest of the monopolists, both domestic and foreign, and protagonist of so called Hindutva and pseudo-nationalism, glaringly indicates which direction it wants to lead the country to. No word is enough to decry such a monstrous legislation. We demand immediate roll back of this black amendment, lock, stock and barrel and call upon all conscientious people of the country to raise united voice in support of this just demand.’’
