SUCI(C) condemned banning dharna, in parliament premises and ban of so called unparliamentary words as further curtailment of democratic norms and rights
Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI(C), issued the following statement on 16 July 2022:
With a view to further tightening the noose of fascist autocracy, the BJP-government has marked a slew of common words and sentences used in registering protests and dissents as unparliamentary in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. These words or sentences, if used, might not only be expunged from the proceedings but even invite punitive action. Alongside, the government has issued an order prohibiting the members of both houses of Parliament from using the parliament premises for demonstration, dharna, strike or fasting. Riding on brute majority in the houses, the ruling BJP in avid subservience of the class interest of the ruling monopolists is stripping parliamentary democracy virtually of all its essence leaving only a façade of it and feign to the world how Indian democracy is operative in a peaceful and disciplined manner.
We vehemently condemn these despotic measures and once again call upon all democratic-minded people to organize themselves in powerful movement to stop this systematic curtailment of whatever little of democratic norms and practices are still in existence.
