Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI (Communist), issued the following statement on 09-08-23: Under the camouflage of protecting personal data and the privacy of individuals, the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill, 2023 passed in Lok Sabha on 7 August last is in fact a severe attack on the right to privacy and freedom of the Indian citizens. The government will be the sole decider of the purpose for which the data will be used and such a unilateral decision will be deemed to be the consent of the person whose data will be accessed. Moreover, the government’s decision to use the data will be in the interest of the state or any of its instrumentalities even the employers though posed to be in public interest. Thus, the Bill will grant arbitrary power to the state or government to have access to any data of any personnel for any purpose including surveillance, irrespective of whether consent of the personnel concerned is obtained or not.
We vehemently oppose this fascistic onslaught on the fundamental rights of the people by the BJP government and call upon all democratic-minded people to rise unitedly against such an out and out autocratic legislation.
SUCI (Communist) calls Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill, 2023, a fascistic onslaught
