Comrade Sankar Saha, Polit Bureauand CentralCommittee member of SUCI (Communist), President, AIUTUC, a life-long revolutionary and a veteran front-ranking trade union leader breathed his last on 31 May2021at 8.10 a.m. He was 81.
Comrade Sankar Saha was admitted to Calcutta Heart Clinic & Hospital on 12 April 2021 with high fever.Investigation detected that he was infected with Covid-19. After initial stabilization, Comrade Sankar Saha had developed severe restlessness and worsening pneumonia. On 27 April 2021, he required invasive ventilation.
After prolongedtreatment, his Covid-19 test report on 8 May 2021 was negative. But he had acute kidney injury and required intermittent haemodialysis.His condition gradually deteriorated to a very critical stage. Despite untiring efforts of the doctors, nurses and medical staff, Comrade Sankar Saha could not be saved.
His body was brought to the Party’s Central Office where floral tribute was offered on behalf of Comrade Provash Ghosh. Other Polit Bureau and central Committee members as well as State level leaders also paid their revolutionary tribute. Then his body was taken to the AIUTUC Central Office, from where he guided the trade union ad working class movements. There, the AIUTUC leaders paid their respect with tears. Finally, he was cremated at Keoratola crematorium.
His demise has caused a serious loss to the Party as well revolutionary working class movement of the country.
To pay respect to his revolutionary life and struggle, there will be three day mourning when Party Flagswould dip half-mastinallPartyofficesand comrades would wear black badges from 31 May to 2nd June2021.
