Comrade Pushpendra Vishwakarma, UP State Secretary, SUCI(C), succumbed to a tragic road accident at Uraia Crossing, Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, on 7 September at an age of 57. The heart-rending incident has led to an irreparable loss for the Party, its supporters, sympathizers, and the progressive, leftist movement of the country.
When a student, under guidance and inspiration from his father Comrade Chakraborty Vishwakarma, Comrade Pushpendra had joined AIDSO and taken up the responsibility to build up students’ movement in UP based on Marxism-Leninism-Shibdas Ghosh Thought, overcoming severe obstacles. In course of time, he gradually became close to the Party and soon transformed himself as an able organizer. Reflecting a high standard of proletarian culture and ethics, he shouldered various responsibilities that the Party assigned to him. He made so remarkable a progress in acquiring communist character at such a young age that after demise of Comrade V N Singh, former UP State Secretary and a veteran leader of the Party, he was unanimously elected Secretary of the UP State Organizing Committee. Gradually, he turned out to be a leader whom the Party could entrust deep faith upon. Because of his amiable nature and simplicity, he won the hearts of all. He was keen on studying Marxist literature, along with literatures of the Party. Whenever any problem cropped up in the State Party organization, he ably handled the situation and resolved it. Applying the teachings of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh, the great leader of the proletariat in his life, he could inspire his entire family, wife and children included, to be involved in Party activities. His son is a whole-time Party worker and a state-level leader of AIDSO.
Comrade Pushpendra had organized many mass movements. It was under his leadership that a mass movement was launched in Pratapgarh in demand for stringent punishment of the culprits in rape and murder of a teenage girl, Gudiya and the demand was achieved. Comrade Pushpendra also provided leadership to a mass struggle that erupted after one Ranjan Maurya was killed in a casteist conflict.
In his tragic and untimely demise, the Party has lost a valuable leader. His absence will surely be felt for a long while. But it is firmly believed that the UP state Party leaders and workers, imbued with Marxism-Leninism-Comrade Shibdas Ghosh Thought, will be able to turn their grief into strength and strengthen the Party more, both ideologically and organizationally, in the days to come and thereby pay true homage to their beloved departed leader.
Before his last journey had started from the Party office at Baheliapur, Uraia Road Patty, Pratapgarh, towards the Ibrahimpur Ghat crematorium, on 9 December, revolutionary tribute was paid to him by Comrades Arun Singh and Swapan Chatterjee, both Central Committee members, Jagannath Verma, UP state Office Secretary, Bechan Ali and the state leaders of AIDSO, AIDYO, AIMSS, Komsomol, AIUTUC and AIKKMS and hundreds of Party leaders, workers, supporters, sympathizers. He was so endearing to the people staying near his house that many including women had joined his last journey with tears. His mortal remains were consigned to flames after rendition of the song on Comrade Shibdas Ghosh and the Internationale. The Red Fag was dipped half-mast for seven days at the party offices in the state.
