Provash Ghosh, General Secretary of SUCI (Communist), has issued the following statement today on the record rise of fuel prices :
The petrol-diesel prices in India have been raised to record high. To cite the rise in international crude prices as the cause is nothing but a plea because here in India huge doses of taxes and cess by both the central and state governments are imposed on petrol-diesel to fill up the govt. exchequer. It is well known that this rise in fuel prices will naturally in a cascading effect push up the prices of the daily necessities which would put the common people to more hardships.
We, therefore demand that the government immediately withdraw the taxes and cess from petrol-diesel and reduce the prices in the market.
