Comrade Provash Ghosh, General Secretary, SUCI(C) issued the following statement on 29 July 2019 :
We strongly disapprove and condemn the ‘ Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill,2019 ‘ passed recently in the Lok Sabha with the brute majority of the BJP led NDA government at the Centre. The Bill amends the ‘ Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,1967 enacted by the then Congress government and all the subsequent amendments to it to designate any individual suspected by the government to be a “terrorist”. In another enactment amending National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act, the Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency has been empowered to straightaway investigate any offence deemed to be falling under the category of terrorism without involving police administration of the concerned state,forfeit property of an individual which the agency feels to have been acquired from proceeds of terrorism and extends the provision of remand from 14 to 30 days. All these amendments on the plea of weeding out root of terrorism in the country, will, without any shadow of doubt, vest absolute power to the central government to muzzle any voice of dissent or protest against the existing exploitative system and ruthlessly suppress democratic mass movements branding them as anti-national, seditious and acts of terrorism paving the way for further centralization
of power and consolidation of administrative fascism in our country.
We call upon all left and democratic parties and forces as well as all well-meaning democratic-minded individuals to come forward to unleash a united organized powerful militant mass movements across the country to resist this draconian fascistic attack.
