Expressing deep anguish and agony over the painful development in the
Kashmir Valley, Sri Provash Ghosh, General Secretary of SUCI (Communist)
issued the following statement today :
The continually deteriorating situation in the Kashmir Valley has reached its
peak. According to the press report the death toll has already reached 30.
Educational institutions, shops and market places, offices and firms — all are
closed for long paralyzing the normal life. A situation of insecurity and
uncertainty has pervaded the entire valley making life unbearable and
suffocating.
This is not the first time that such a situation developed in the valley. The
gravity of the situation demands urgent and necessary steps to normalize
situation and restore peace in the valley. But we believe that peace can be
restored by peaceful negotiation involving all concerned and not by armed
We urge the Central government to take immediate and appropriate steps to
involve all concerned for a negotiated peace.
