Comrade Provas Ghosh, General Secretary of SUCI(C), has issued the following statement:–
Any sensible and democratic minded person will definitely admit the fact that after a series of communal incidents starting from forcible reconversion, repeated attack on churches and communal riots the recent acts of beef-lynching and killings of renowned rationalist, all have created a situation and atmosphere in which all the minorities are frightened. Against this growing intolerance the eminent writers, artists or even the renowned scientists have vigorously protested and many of the renowned personalities of the country have returned their awards as a sign of protest .When it was necessary for the central Government to take severe and immediate action against this type of communal acts, by remaining silent the Central Government has virtually allowed the members of the Sangh Parivar and Shib Sena to continue the attacks on these renowned personalities branding them as anti Nationals and thus deteriorate the situation all the more. Such a situation with tacit support of the Central Government cannot but create the feelings of insecurity in the minorities which actually made Mr. Amir Khan to express this feeling of the minority. Instead of realizing the gravity of the situation, from the statement of Mr. Khan, the Government remaining silent has virtually allowed the Hindu fanatics to make severe verbal attacks on Mr. Khan and thus helped the situation to deteriorate further. These Hindu fanatics are leveling charge against Mr. Khan that his statement has maligned India’s image before the world. But the fact is just reverse. Actually the repeated communal acts of the Hindu fanatics has actually maligned the image of India and have vitiated the democratic atmosphere of the country which they are now trying to hide by creating a hullabaloo on the statement of Mr. Khan.
We strongly condemn both the communal acts of the Hindu fanatics and their most communal motivated verbal attacks on the intellectuals, the writers, the scientists as well as on Mr. Khan and urge upon the Central Government to strongly and immediately stop the communal activities and propaganda of the Hindu fanatics and ensure safety and security for all the minorities.
We call upon the people to remain firmly united and resolutely fight the growing communal and fascistic atmosphere.
