Comrade Samar Kr. Sinha, All India Secretariat Member of AIUTUC, represented the organization at the 11th International Conference of International Labour Organization (ILO) held in Geneva from 5 to 16 June 2023. Comrade Sinha participated in the two groups viz. Apprenticeship & On Labour Protection.
Highlighting the major demands of the working class, both in India and abroad, Comrade Sinha, inter alia, said that after completion of the tenure of apprenticeship i.e., the stipulated period they are to be given preference for absorption under the principal employer. Remuneration should not be the prerogative of the Employers. It must be the minimum scale of a regular employee who is performing the same jobs. Rampant violation of Labour laws have become the order of the day by the employers across the globe including India. One after another hard earned rights are taken away. Right to eight hours duty of the workers has virtually become a day dream. The concept of permanent jobs has been changed by introducing fixed term employment. The Contractual Workers are denied equal pay for equal work. Social security measures including the right to Pension are being snatched away. Need based minimum wage is not being paid by the many ILO member countries including India. Workers of informal/unorganized sectors are the worst victims of ruthless exploitation. Determination of the minimum wages must have a scientific basis. In India, the government has brought in a most atrocious ‘‘Labour Code’’ which is aimed of depriving the workers of all hard earned rights and licensing the employers to do anything they want. He called upon the ILO to seriously look into the brazen violation of labour laws in India and other relatively backward countries and exert pressure on the respective governments to retract from that.
