AIDSO, AIMSS organize candle march in Srinagar, Uttarakhand, in demand for stringent punishment of murderers of teen-aged Ankita by BJP leader’s son
A 19-year old girl named Ankita Bhandari was working in a resort owned by Vinod Acharya, a powerful RSS-BJP leader and former minister in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. She was reportedly being pressurised by Pulakit, the son of the owner of the resort to be initiated into flesh trade. But when she refused, Pulakit allegedly molested her and threw her in the Ganga canal. Uttarakhand police and administration tried to cover up the crime just like the rape and murder of a poor dalit girl at Hathras, UP. But under public pressure, the police started searching the body of the girl which was recovered after 5 days. But still the police were hesitating to take any action against the accused son-father duo obviously due to political pressure.
But sensing the outrage of the public, the police had to finally arrest Pulakit and two of his alleged accomplices. Virtually, the entire Uttarakhand people have come out on the streets in demand for stringent punishment of the guilty. On 23 September, AIDSO and AIMSS organized a candle march in Srinagar, Garhwal in support of the people’s demand. Also they have joined common people in the blockade of Badrinath Kedarnath highway on 25 September.
